Jupiter comes back to Pisces every 12 years (2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950-51, 1938-39). Jupiter conjunct Neptune in their own home—Pisces, happens every 166 years. The last time was in 1856. This year, they will meet at 23º58 Pisces, exactly on April 11, 2022.
Imaginations and Expansiveness
Jupiter in Pisces opens access to spiritual imaginations through meditation and inner reflection. Individual exploration first results in accessing expansive thoughts that are inherent in the individual. New imaginations from the spiritual worlds then ensue. Jupiter in Pisces gives wisdom through these imaginations, as we integrate them into our understanding, our feeling, and our will to put them into action. When Jupiter conjoins Neptune, it’s an opportune time to spend time going inward. It is in our isolation that we can tap into new perceptions. You may realize things that you didn’t know you knew.
Negatively, Jupiter in Pisces manifests in religious fanaticism, and adamant proselytizing of rigidified concepts and beliefs. The growing religious fundamentalism and fanaticism throughout the world, has a particular impact in the current socio-political fabric of the USA. There are particular parallels between The American Party of the 1850s, and the current Republican Party, especially its connections with the followers of Donald Trump, and his intentions for the US. This party’s agenda is also manifest in our time in the acute dichotomy between Republican and Democratic intentions. The American Party, or The Know Nothings, were a nativist political party and movement in the United States in the mid-1850s. The party was formally known as the “Native American Party” prior to 1855 and simply the “American Party” after that.
Fundamentalism and Fanaticism
The Know Nothings were originally a secret society that was anti-Catholic, anti-Irish, anti-immigration, populist and xenophobic movement, making it very similar to the current Republicans and Trumpistas. Its alignment with American Progressiveness in its stances on issues of labor rights, the need for more government spending, as well as for its support for an expansion of the rights of women, regulation of industry, and support of measures designed to improve the status of working people, are more like the current Democratic Party intentions. As a forerunner to the temperance movement, The Know Nothing movement briefly emerged as a major political party in the form of the American Party. Adherents to the movement were to simply reply “I know nothing” when asked about its specifics by outsiders, providing the group with its common name. The current version of “knowing nothing”, manifests in the blind following and echoing of Trump’s self-serving propaganda and lies without question, even when faced with contradictory facts they themselves recognize!
Just as the supporters of The Know Nothing movement believed that an alleged “Romanist” conspiracy was being planned to subvert civil and religious liberty in the United States, many of the modern Republican politicians and followers believe that the Democrats, as “Socialists” want to subvert society by supporting women’s rights, and having government overseeing public welfare. The extremists of both modern parties, who are believers in Qanon, et al propagandists, have the Democrats, and other groups as elitist Satan worshiping baby eaters, who drink adrenochrome derived from fear-induced ritual murders of children, for the purposes of physical longevity and power.
In both eras, the Protestants describe their motives as defenses of their traditional religious and political values. The Know Nothing movement is remembered for this theme because of fears that Catholic priests and bishops would control a large bloc of voters. Today, the Republicans are shamelessly controlling voting ability in many places. The ideology and influence of The Know Nothing movement lasted only a couple of years before disintegrating due to weak and inexperienced local leaders, a lack of publicly declared national leaders, and a deep split over the issue of slavery.
In 1856, The Civil War in the US was brewing. A variety of long-standing tensions and disagreements about American life and politics came to a head. These included economic interests, cultural values, and the question whether the federal government has the power to control the states, especially about slavery. Today, we see these same questions and disagreements rearing their heads, threatening to tear apart society and dissolve democracy.
Today, the issues of voting rights, racism, and women’s rights are weakening the extremist stances of the Republican Party, as people, and a few Republican politicians themselves stand for democratic ideals. As the Know Nothings disappeared with the American Civil War, we can hope that the extremist Republicans, Trumpistas, and the racist and nationalistic groups that support their ideas will also fade away as a historical episode of how the underbelly of the US shadow came to light and dissolved.
Expansion and Meaninglessness
Expansive Jupiter sharing the realm of Pisces with its ruler, Neptune, increases the intensely subtle unconscious workings. One may feel magnificently supported by the spirit, and its workings in the world. Others may have a deep sense of emptiness and meaninglessness. Others may feel an impossibility to grasp reality, and a falling into chaos, or an abyss of unknowing. Boundaries may be blurred, or disappear entirely. You may not realize where you begin and where you end, become everything and everybody. Thus, reality is difficult to understand, or finding reality is not what it was before.
During the 1960’s, both expansion and meaninglessness manifested in the widespread use of hallucinogens and other psychotropic substances. For some people, this was very enlightening and inspiring, while others fell into addiction and loss of will. Today, even though these substances are still in use, the main vehicle for expansion, addiction, and loss of will is through the use of digital technology.
The Jupiterian universal connectivity through the digital world has brought about new global awareness and responsibility. The ability for immediate learning and communication has been very helpful for solving certain problems in the world, or at least bringing awareness to them. As time goes on in this digital world we live in, we can also see more and more addiction to the use of digital devices and programs.
Jupiter also adds the overuse of this technology, and our over-reliance of it. The immediacy of faster and faster retrieval of information is addictive. The promise of enhancing the human being with implanted technology is growing to be inevitably widespread in the not-so-far future. Even now, the ability for human thinking, feeling, and willing is increasingly compromised by the reliance upon the computer. The question, what is a true human being is being challenged by digital technology now. As Artificial Intelligence expands, and Transhumanism grows, this question will also grow in importance. Will we dissolve our inner forces and lose ourselves in the illusion that we can become “more human” by enhancing ourselves by merging with computers?
Jupiter in Pisces gives abundant inspiration and imaginations. While in Aquarius, Jupiter’s impulses brought out new ways of thinking about the world on many fronts. Blockchain technology was created before, but really took off during its Aquarian transit. It is increasingly being used throughout the world. For better and worse, it is a manifesting the rethinking of how systems can work, right down to the monetary sphere. It has been misused, but for the most part it is putting a more democratic way of creating and using money. Of course, governments are searching for ways to use and control such technology. We’ll have to wait to see how this plays out.
Already, artists can download pieces of finished art. All forms of art can be made and replicated in abundance. Virtual realities are increasingly coming into existence. The human experience of creating is being reduced to pixels and digital binary code. Some argue these are the new paintbrushes. The commodification of art is making new bounds. Where is the human experience of being lifted up by the arts going?
The questions that Neptune bring are for us to resolve. What is not of spiritual significance will lead us down the proverbial primrose path towards experiences of disillusionment and dissolution of personal and social forms. A Jupiter/Neptune conjunction can be very ungrounding. When Jupiter as in Pisces in 1938-39 misconceptions were purposely created for the purpose of misleading the people of Germany. The aggrandizing of the German people in the wake of the financial fall of Germany after WWI, and the blame put upon the Jewish and other people created an illusion that had catastrophic consequences for the whole world. These same kind of illusions have been upheld in various parts of the world, since then, but have grown in the US and Europe particularly. The symptomatic figure of Donald Trump has emboldened modern day Nazism, and the related white nationalist groups. These elements of the shadow of humanity are now in the light , more than they have been in decades. This is a good thing, but it is still a dangerous poison seeping in society.
Controversial migration of diverse cultures will continue the Neptunian flow through borders around the world, challenging fearful nationalists and racists. Like the 19th Century massive immigration movement into the US, today’s redistribution of populations will first bolster, then break down xenophobic perceptions. The impulse to rethink societal systems and the globalization of cooperative social systems will rise. But this will be met by the impulses to maintain the status quo.
During the second half of the 18th Century, Britain established opium commerce, by smuggling it into China. The government of China was concerned by the moral decay of the people, and the outflow of silver from their country. French and American merchants were also smuggling opium into China. Greed and ambition grew, as did the lucrative trade.
The First Opium War between Great Britain and the Qing Dynasty, fought between 1839–1842, was triggered by the Qing’s crackdown on British Opium smugglers. The Second Opium War was fought by a British and French coalition against the Qing in 1856–1860. Of course, the European modern military technology led to easy victory over the Qing forces. Consequentially, the Chinese government was compelled to grant favorable tariffs and trade concessions. These imposed treaties weakened the Qing dynasty and Chinese governments, forcing them to open specified treaty ports (especially Shanghai) that handled all trade with imperial powers. In addition, China gave sovereignty over Hong Kong to Britain. The karma of these actions are being revisited today, in the tension between The West, especially the US, and China. China is strong-arming the people of Hong Kong, who are used to being more independent.
Pandemics
Its interesting to me, in light of the theories of how Covid-19 spread from a lab in China, that in 1855, the bubonic plague erupted in China, in the province of Yunnan. It spread across the globe over several decades. By the beginning of the 20th century, infected rats on steamships carried it to all inhabited continents. By the time it died out in the 1950s, the disease claimed some 15 million lives. This also coincided with the extensive number of Chinese workers immigrating to work on the railroads, and in the gold and silver mines in the US. The second Opium War also started in 1856. Racist attitudes were high, both in the US, and in England. This was due to Western exceptionalism, British propaganda, religious and white superiority, and complete ignorance. Whether, or not the Covid-19 virus was purposely, or accidentally let out from the Wuhan lab, the global spread of the virus has brought out, in some corners, especially in the US, the same kind of racist sentiments toward the Chinese. This is going on simultaneously with the economic and political tensions between the US and China. Propaganda from both countries have created some degree of anxiety in their respective countries.
When Jupiter joins Neptune in Pisces during 2022, a surge of Covid-19’s variants is expected. Neptune dissolves energetic defenses, as Jupiter increases the spread and contagion. People will certainly be susceptible to these variant diseases, to the degree that fear of the unseen materialistic perception of viruses, lack of trust in our own immune systems, and how thinking and attitudes affect our immune systems are ignored. The subsequent reliance and giving over our wills to a medical system that is often controlled by corporate interests jeopardizes our ability to keep our immune systems strong. Whether we do, or do not take the vaccine, the most effective way to protect oneself is to have the confidence and trust that vigorous spiritual self-development gives. This, along with a healthy lifestyle will support the immune system.
During Jupiter’s and Neptune’s previous Pisces visit, in 1856, typhus was imported into America from European immigrants, leprosy from Africa, and especially yellow fever from West Africa through the slave trade, which was then purposely spread to the Native American people through the distribution of infected blankets.
There is so much more to cover, but I don’t want to write a book! The upcoming Jupiter Neptune conjunction will be a major impulse in the world. Considering the accumulative initiations through the conjunctions of Saturn and Pluto, of Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn, and the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, this conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune will further humanity’s evolution through major changes. To face these dissolutions and expansions, we will need flexibility, adaptability, courage and a lot of equanimity.
