From Karma to Dharma
As human beings, we reflect upon ourselves, and can find the existence of various antipathies and sympathies living in our feeling life. We either enjoy experiences, and we gravitate towards them, or we feel they are distasteful, then shun them. We have our individual levels of comfort and discomfort, that range from the instinctual and the purely habitual, to those that we have learned. We share this level of consciousness with the animal kingdom. However, human beings have the capacity for choice. Yes, we can choose what is more pleasurable over what displeases us, but more importantly, we can also choose to change the nature of our responses.
During our lives between death and birth, we have a very objective look at our previous life on earth, learn internal lessons, and lessons about how we relate with other individualities, society, humanity, and the wider world. As we move through the soul and spiritual worlds, we purify ourselves to learn ever deeper lessons for our evolution. At a certain moment, the Cosmic Midnight Point of our experience in the spiritual world, we face the decision to return, or not, to a new life on earth. The vast majority of us decide to return, to take up our tasks and responsibilities in our evolution as an individual.
We come into our lives within a certain culture, socio-economic circumstances, and within certain families, and others with whom we share karmic streams . These families and situations are born out of what we have chosen and need for our spiritual evolution. We attract certain people, and are attracted to them, because of our similar soul qualities, and previous shared experiences. We provide certain experiences for others, as they do for us. Our karmic necessities attract the situations we find ourselves in life.
Through Evolutionary Astrology, we can have an understanding of what has been brought from previous lives, and what the intentions are, for this current life. Instead of the cookie-cutter sun sign approach, which generalizes, and even stereotypes people, the specific configurations and interrelationships of planets, stars, signs, and houses are indications of the truly unique stamp of an individual’s development, up until their birth, and point toward their forward evolutionary direction.
Positive and negative elements of the past are always marked by an individual’s seemingly natural habits, and all that is called for the soul’s forward direction point to what new habits need to be formed. This is where we can consciously take hold and determine our own development. The degree at which we consciously align our thoughts, feelings, and actions with our spiritual intuitions, inspirations, and intentions, corresponds to the degree of our spiritual development. This is a process of conscious transformation – the spiritualization of ourselves.
We live during a time, in which we are called to consciously direct our thinking, feeling, and willing towards the spiritual world, and what we must do for our development. Our participation is necessary, and we are called to the task of transforming our karma into dharma. Astrology is a language which can aid us in the understanding of our karma, from which we can make choices to direct our lives anew.
